Virtualbox Extension Pack

extention pack info

The extension pack is needed for sharing between host and guest, 3D support, extended USB support and more.

VirtualBox is open source , but extention pack close sourced
It adds some extra features not in the main VirtualBox app , such as USB2/USB3 support and support for RDP.

Always keep it in sync with the main virtualbox app
Newer main app can apparently work with some older versions

check if properly installed :
VirtualBox Manager > menu > file > Preferences > Extensions

upgrading

Upgrading VirtualBox will not update the Virtualbox Extension Pack.
But when you open an updated Virtualbox, you get a notification that there is an update for virtualbox or there is an update for the Extension Pack.

You can only install the Extension Pack with a same version of that of Virtualbox.
Upgrading Virtualbox can remove the Extension Pack, but sometimes it remains (having no effect)

UPDATE 2021-08
- download the ext pack file
- mowe it to install location
- double click to install / or rechts klikken > open with virtual box
- virtual box zal de extentie installeren / updaten

or use VBoxManage

out-of-sync example

VirtualBox was upgrade to 6.1.34 by synaptic
The previous ectention pack is still installed , possiblely conflicting
