Test microphone

test microphone on Ubuntu 20.04

use use command line tool arecord see : [[ALSA tools#test micro]]
arecord -vvv -f dat /dev/null

GUI GNOME desktop

1. open up Settings window
2. click on the Sound tab. S
3. goto Input Device. tab
4. select a device
5. set the input volume to a good percentage , increase if needed
6. start speaking to the selected microphone.
   the orange bars below the device name should start flashing as a result of your audio input.
   I believe when it flashes green , the result is considered ok
