documentation
man nemo
address bar -versus- path bar
by default, Nautilus uses/show the path bar aka “breathcrumbs bar” ( Nautilus path bar Nautilus address bar )
override this via the options
in nemo :
ctrl + L : places focus on the location bar
AND triggers the location toggle switch , in a three way toggle switch
[ weird behavior ]
( in thunar ctrl + L places focus on the location bar , as it should be )
nemo tree
synchs with folders automatically
(click on a folder and the tree syncs automatically)
I find this a particular disturbing feature , but there is no way to disable that sync #TODO
workarround :
- menu > sidebar > option : use “places” (not use tree)
- added the most used folders as bookmarks , and i start from there
This is workable for me , but not ideal
also , preferences > show only folders in the tree
(but i don’t use it anymore)
config dual pane
nemo settings : launch with dual pane by default
How to get Nemo to remember last dual Pane setting
there’s no command line option to specify which directory opens in each pane when dual is the default,
I’ve seen messy scripts that use xdotool to specify the second pane content.
e.g the one at the bottom of this thread is for nautilus but could probably be converted https://askubuntu.com/questions/39004/h … by-default
feature request. for a new command line option to specify two directories for dual pane :

preferences
