advanced functionalities in a file manager

these are considered to be needed in professional usage
either out-of-the-box or extendable

  • multiple panes
  • multiple tabs
  • save/ open sessions
  • mng folder groups
  • dir / file compare

extreme functionalities in a file manager

  • virtual / flattened / scrap pane

used fm

1. nemo

shift ⊞ + F
default cinamon
dual pane
“actions” are possible (extend functionality)

2. thunar

⊞ + F
==lighweigt and fast==
xcfe libraries needed
geen dual pane
do not use thunar for big file copies/moves (more then 1 Gb)
[[3. thunar-config]]

3. spacefm

alt ⊞ + F
which always opens with the last session, support bookmarks and up to four panes.
spacefm is available from the universe repository for GTK2 and GTK3
install : sudo apt install spacefm (GTK2-version) or sudo apt install spacefm-gtk3 (GTK3-version)

http://ignorantguru.github.io/spacefm/spacefm-manual-next-en.html#introduction-highlights
apparte tree/bookmarkbar/devicebar per pannel & appart
zou volgens i’net extreem configureerbaar zijn (TODO)

4.Dolphin

ctrl ⊞ + F
==allows easy file tagging== (see extended file attributes
KDE
very customizable
